Our Mission and Guiding Principles are the components that make up the foundation of our culture at Baker’s Crust. Our guiding principles are the values that support our mission…Eat Well. Be Happy. Our values represent our philosophy of how we treat each other and how we conduct our business. Our attitudes and behaviors define our culture. All of these combined are based on our passion and true concern for our guests. Baker's Crust opened for business in October of 1993, in a 3000 square foot storefront, located in Hilltop North Shopping Center, about 3 miles away from the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. We have evolved from a self-service, 36-seat sandwich and breakfast spot to a full service restaurant, servicing breakfast, lunch and dinner, and dessert seven days a week. Hearth-baked, European style artisan breads are at the heart of our business. Everything, including the breads, pastries and desserts, are made from scratch. In 1995, we opened a second location in the Ghent section of Norfolk, and a third to follow on Cary Street in Richmond in 1998. The original location in Virginia Beach baked all of the breads, pastries and desserts for the three locations, at first, but to keep up with the demand, we opened a 4,600 square foot central production facility down the street and around the corner. In 2003, we opened a location in the Short Pump Mall in Richmond. In 2008, we opened a Baker's Crust in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, and our sixth company-owned restaurant opened in the New Town area of Williamsburg in 2009. At Baker's Crust, we use locally grown microgreens, microbasil, baby kale and mesculn mix on a farm in Suffolk, Virginia. Our farming method goes beyond organic to deliver naturally clean lettuces and herbs with unmatched freshness and flavor. This agricultural leap allows us to produce greens that are pesticide free and GMO free and help deliver a more sustainable future. SmartBasil Farms, located in Suffolk, VA, grows the most incredibly flavored lettuces, greens, and herbs, all clean-grown within hydroponic greenhouses. This farming method provides a safe growing environment free from outside contaminants like acid rain, run-off or secondary pesticide. All of the lettuces and greens grown at SmartBasil Farms are pesticide free, GMO free and blemish-free.
What makes this business unique? Fresh and healthy, clean and neat.
